The work consists of constructing approximately 4.4 miles of concrete trail east of CR 17. The 10-foot wide Long View Trail passes through one City of Loveland natural area (Sunset Vista), three City of Fort Collins natural areas (Colina Mariposa, Hazaleus and Cathy Fromme Prairie) and one Larimer County open space (Long View Open Space). On the south end, the trail ties into the Loveland Recreation Trail at Sunset Vista Natural Area on the corner of the newly enhanced 57th St. and north Taft Ave intersection. On the north end, the trail ties into a sidewalk and underpass leading into Fort Collins’ Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area and existing Fossil Creek Trail.
Grants covered almost half the cost of construction thanks to a $1 million grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) Transportation Enhancement (TE) Grant as well as a Great Outdoors Colorado’s (GOCO) Paths to Parks Initiative grant for $999,550.
Loveland’s share of the project is budgeted at $1,126,943.70 and includes street and crosswalk improvements on 57th Street, 0.67 miles of paved trail, a parking lot, three bridges and wetlands restoration.
Fort Collins share of the project is budgeted at $1,841,936.61 and includes crosswalk improvements on Trilby Rd, Scenic Dr. and Fossil Creek Dr., 2.21 miles of paved trail, two bridges and wetlands restoration.
Larimer County share of the project is budgeted at $660,741.26 and includes 1.52 miles of paved trail.
