AVI provided Design and Construction Management for street and utility improvements. The Norris Avenue Viaduct Project was recently awarded the 2010 Wyoming Engineers Society’s Presidential Project of the year and the Intermountain Best 2010 Silver for Outstanding Civil/Public Works Project by Mountain States Construction.
At $28 million, the Norris Viaduct project is the largest public works project undertaken by the City of Cheyenne to date. The Norris Viaduct connects south and north Cheyenne over the Union Pacific Railroad and replaced a structure built in 1952, which had deteriorated to the point that required replacement. The project encompassed the two span steel box girder bridge, as well as, a pedestrian underpass, street realignments (Logan Ave., 6th Street, Campstool, and 5th/Morrie Ave, Cheyenne, WY), storm sewer (2,500’), water and sewer mains (9,000’). Special Design elements and aesthetic enhancements incorporated in the bridge design included MSE walls, and decorative bridge treatments (railing, lights, and wall patterns) street improvements with landscape amenities, pathways, and shelters.
